Travertine tiles are composed of a dense form of calcium carbonate. Travertine stone is technically a limestone but most people consider it as a form of marble. The Romans first used travertine tile as a building material.
Travertine tile varies in colour from a pale to dark cream. Many people are attracted to travertine tile because of its trademark surface variegation. The voids visible in travertine tile were caused by gases present when the rock was in the molten state. The voids in the tile can be left unfilled or filled with grout. The appearance of travertine tile varies according to how the material is cut at the quarry which can suit both rustic and contemporary applications.
At The Stone Gallery we will be pleased to show you the different finishes available in travertine tile:
polished travertine tile - available only with filled tiles
honed travertine tile - available in either filled or unfilled
brushed travertine tile - a textured finish available unfilled tiles only
We stock a wide selection of different colours, sizes and finishes of travertine wall tile and travertine floor tile and invite you to visit our showroom. As travertine tile is a natural material you can expect variations in shading and pattern.
We are open Monday to Friday 8.00am to 5.00pm and Saturdays from 9.00am till 5.00pm and are happy to give advice on the use of travertine for flooring and other applications
